Sometimes being a hero means doing something extraordinary for yourself or a buddy. It is estimated that suicide is four times more likely to happen in a fire department than a line of duty death…and it can almost always be prevented.
If you or someone you know suffers from depression and is talking about suicide or acting in a manner which you believe they are thinking about suicide, reach out and tell them they are not alone and that help is standing by. If you think they are in the planning stages of suicide, do not leave them alone. Bring them to the nearest ER for emergency treatment.
If you are thinking about suicide, reach out to a trusted family member, friend or person in your organization that is responsible for behavioral health. Help is also a phone call away and counselors are standing by to assist you. If you need help call 1-800-273-8255 for the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline.
SUICIDE IS PREVENTABLE….REACH OUT.
