A Testimonial: The Courage to Be Safe® Class Saved My Life!

In the winter of 2006, I took the Courage to Be Safe® class. After that class I took a hard look at myself. I was overweight and out of shape. After several conversations with my doctor, we decided it would be best for me to have gastric bypass surgery. This was going to be a life-saving surgery because I had high blood pressure, diabetes, and sleep apnea, just to name a few serious health problems. » Read More

Letter to the Editor: He Thought He Was Healthy

I read your letter in the newsletter and commend you for the 2x4 between the eyes approach to drawing attention to this issue. I suffered from a cardiac related incident this year that I am recovering from. In the long run I believe that the event was a blessing in disguise in that it moved me from the suppression side to the inspection/investigation side. » Read More

What a Difference a Day Makes...

Every September I head to the Jersey shore (the Wildwoods) for the annual New Jersey State Firemen's Convention. This particular September, I noticed that the Everyone Goes Home® program's Courage to be Safe® Train-the-Trainer was being offered. Reflecting on Positive Change

Two Firefighters Saved - Thanks, Captain!

I just wanted to pass along a message from my buddy in Kansas who you taught a while back. He called me last night and told me that one of his department's tenders rolled over while responding to a rural grass fire. My first thought, was that most tender rollovers result in usually serious injuries or death. However, I learned that both the driver and passenger were wearing their seatbelts and were able to self-extricate with minor injuries after the tender rolled twice. » Read More
