Chief Ronald Siarnicki and the Board of Directors of the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation (NFFF), along with the Firefighter Life Safety Initiatives (FLSI) Program Team, announce release of the Firefighter Life Safety Resource Kit. The Kit is a video training resource package designed to help reduce firefighter line-of-duty deaths. As part of the "Everyone Goes Home" program, the kit will be shipped to over 30,000 U.S. fire departments.

We hope your department was one of the many who renewed their commitment to ensuring that everyone goes home by participating in the stand down on Wednesday, June 21. The focus on vehicle safety was excellent. The IAFC and IAFF are to be complimented for their efforts.

Everyone looks healthy in Breckenridge, Colo. This resort town located at 9,700 feet in the Rocky Mountains is a center for outdoor sports: hiking, mountain biking, running, river rafting, mountain climbing and, of course, world-class skiing. Walk down the street during any season and you'll encounter families, young adults and retired people who all look like they just finished a 10k run.

Ed Mann, Pennsylvania State Fire Commissioner, serves as State Advocate for the Everyone Goes Home Firefighter Life Safety Initiatives Program and is instrumental in the development and introduction of the Courage to Be Safe Program throughout the state of Pennsylvania. Ed would like to share the following letter he received from one of his students.

As a section of the International Association of Fire Chiefs, I believe that the Safety, Health and Survival Section, has a responsibility to address issues that will have the effect of increasing the Safety, Health and Survival of the fire service. There will be times that the stand of the section will offend, though it is rarely my intent or that of the section to do so. It is not our place to change people or their beliefs, but we are certainly interested in seeing the culture of the fire service changed to create a culture more accepting of safety as a norm.

After the article "Leadership: We killed firefighter Brian Hunton" was published last year, I received an email that made the loss and responsibility I felt even deeper.

The National Fallen Firefighters Foundation's Firefighter Life Safety Initiatives Program Team and TRADE's Training Network, a National Fire Academy sponsored activity, announced plans to make the contents of the resource CD available through the TRADE Training Network.

In work funded by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), the Maryland Industrial Partnerships Program (MIPS) and the Maryland Fire and Rescue Institute (MFRI), an innovative technology prototype for tracking individuals moving inside buildings and structures (and outside as well) has been developed.

One of the hazards that firefighters and EMS personnel face every day is moving traffic in and around their emergency scene. Our personnel are in danger of being struck by a vehicle while operating along roadways. It is a hazard we face every time our apparatus leaves the station even if we're just answering a public service call or going out for supplies.

as a reminder to be safe so Everyone Goes Home!
"Way too many fire fighters in his state are not wearing their seatbelts and are driving too fast. I would like the firefighters in my state to have the Courage To Be Safe and change the culture of taking unnecessary risks by slowing down and WEARING THEIR SEAT BELTS."
