– The National Fallen Firefighters Foundation was extremely saddened to learn of Ray Pfeifer’s passing on Sunday. Ray was a friend of the Foundation and an inspiration. He was a leader and role model whose compassion for others was extraordinary. Ray Pfeifer will be deeply missed. READ
– On May 25, 2008, seven Loudon County (VA) Fire and Rescue Department personnel were injured - four firefighters nearly died in the line-of-duty and three others suffered injuries while battling a 2-alarm house fire on Meadowood Court in Leesburg. Following the fire, two extensive examinations of fire operations in Loudon County occurred, to include a DOLI review and citation. READ
– The contest will take place over three months, where firefighters will be encouraged to submit their best chili recipe to HORMEL® Chili for judging. READ
– Earlier in 2016, twelve chiefs representing every type of department shared the grim realities of coping with a line-of-duty death in the documentary Giving Courage: LODD Chiefs Speak. In 2017, the Foundation will feature additional footage to help other fire chiefs and leaders to prevent future tragedies. READ
– Improving firefighter safety was the driving force that brought the FDSOA and Firehouse together to work to increase the number of trained, certified fire department incident safety officers. READ
– The course is designed to empower and prepare fire service leaders and instructors to incorporate the most current research findings about fire behavior and firefighting tactics into their training programs. READ

– Newport News Fire Department Safety Officer Lt. Sidney Lucus was named Virginia's Firefighter of the Year for a new mental health peer support program he organized and help launch for the city inside station #1 downtown. READ
