Dearborn Fire Department Pledges to Follow Seat Belt Safety Rules

City of Dearborn News Release

Farmington Hills Fire Chief Richard Marinucci (holding certificate, at left) presents a certificate of acknowledgement to Dearborn Fire Chief Nazih Hazime and Mayor John B. O'Reilly, Jr.

The Dearborn Fire Department was recently honored for 100 percent of its membership committing to follow the rules regarding proper use of seat belts while driving or riding in fire vehicles.

The National Fire Service Seat Belt Pledge, created by Dr. Burton Clark, is supported by the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation, an organization which seeks to enhance safety among firefighting professionals across the nation.

According to the National Fire Protection Association, vehicle collisions are one of the leading causes of death among American firefighters; promoting full use of seat belts has been identified as an effective strategy to reduce incidents of injuries or deaths that result from such collisions.
