Texas Fire Chiefs’ Association Receives NFFF Seal of Excellence Award

Chiefs' efforts created state drive for all fire service personnel to complete the NFFF Courage to be Safe® program

The Texas Fire Chiefs’ Association doesn’t just talk about firefighter safety, they put ideas into action. The association has embraced the mission of Everyone Goes Home® through proactive training, education and advocacy. Thanks to their efforts, the Texas fire service now wants all regulated firefighters, fire officers, fire instructors, fire investigators and fire inspectors to complete the 16 Firefighter Life Safety Initiatives program.

In recognition of this commitment to the Firefighter Life Safety Initiatives, the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation presented the Texas Fire Chiefs’ Association with the Seal of Excellence Award at the association’s Executive Conference. “We are very pleased to honor the Texas Fire Chiefs’ Association with this award,” said Chief Ronald J. Siarnicki, executive director of the NFFF. “They have integrated the Life Safety Initiatives throughout their state and have set a benchmark for the nation’s fire service.”

In 2007, the association was part of the Foundation’s ‘Whistle Stop Tour’ and delivered the first Courage To Be Safe® ‘Train the Trainer’ course. They also proudly recognize departments who have completed the Seat Belt Pledge, regularly publish articles about the Life Safety Initiatives and deliver the messages of safety through all their publications, presentations and materials.

The Seal of Excellence is presented to an individual or group, or fire, rescue, EMS department that demonstrates the commitment to the 16 Firefighter Life Safety Initiatives, commitment to firefighter health and safety and for its contributions to reducing the number of firefighter line-of-duty deaths and injuries. Consideration and selection of the award is based on substantiated facts and information that the individual, group or departments have clearly made a contribution and demonstrated results related to the established criteria above.
